Races to Add To Your Fall Running Routine

Get your fill of running fun at one of these races put on by local organizations.

Was one of your New Year’s resolutions for 2022 to run a 5K or marathon, but you never got around to it? Then it’s time to get started on that goal this fall!

Here, find a list of upcoming fall running events to help push you to success. Sign up for some extra fun at a free walk/run or test your abilities ramp up your workout at a 5K or 10K race.


Michigan Peach Festival 5K/10K at Romeo Middle School

Sept. 1, 2022 

Take part in Romeo Peach Festival’s annual 5K/10K race on the Thursday before Labor Day. All participants will receive a medal, while supplies last.

Running with the Devils 5K

Sept. 8, 2022 

Enjoy a 5K at Richmond’s Good Old Days Festival. Proceeds will benefit the Richmond track and basketball programs. 

5K SCADaddle for Research at Lake St. Clair Metropark 

Sept. 10, 2022 

Take part in a 5K walk/run to raise money for Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD). There will also be refreshments, basket raffles, face painting, quilt drawing and SCAD store.

2022 Tunnel to Towers 5K Run and Walk Metro Detroit at Lake Saint Clair Metropark 

Sept. 11, 2022 

This race is to honor first responders, remember 9/11 and raise funds for the Tunnel to Towers program. You may run or walk the 5K. Registration required.

11th Annual 5K Glow Run at Jimmy John’s Field 

Sept. 17, 2022

Enjoy an annual glow-in-the-dark race that helps raise funds to empower young adults to restart their lives after a cancer diagnosis. The race will begin and end at Jimmy John’s Field. Runners/walkers will be traveling primarily through River Bends Park. There will be a virtual option for those who cannot attend in-person.

Monster Dash at Blake Farms

Sept. 23, 2022

This 5K run/walk is great for the whole family. Includes donut, cider, shirt, a small pumpkin and admission to Spookyland area. Costume and finisher prizes, too. Registration required.

15th Annual Tara’s Walk at Freedom Hill Amphitheatre 

Sept. 24, 2022

Join Turning Point, an agency whose mission is to empower domestic and sexual violence survivors through comprehensive services and resources, for their 15th annual Tara’s Walk, in honor of Tara Grant. Advanced registration is recommended but on-site registration will be available.

Be Aware 5K at Dakota High School

Oct. 15, 2022

Race for youth suicide awareness and prevention. You can either run (timed or not) or walk the event. There is even a virtual option. Must register by Oct. 1 to receive an event t-shirt. Registration required.

Westview Orchards Haunted Wine Run 5K

Oct. 30, 2022

Wine lovers will love this Halloween-themed race at Westview Orchards & Winery. Registration includes a t-shirt, collapsible wine glass, race bib, finisher medal and wine pour.

Hot Cider Hustle – Detroit Half Marathon, 10K and 5K at Lake St. Clair Metropark

Nov. 5, 2022

Runners will choose between a half-marathon, 10K or 5K. There will be caramel apples and apple cider. Plus, a finisher mug for the runners.

Stony Creek Marathon at Stony Creek Metropark 

Nov. 6, 2022

The start and finish line is at Eastwood Beach. Runners will choose between a marathon, half-marathon, 50K, 10K or 5K.

Big Bird Run at Recreational Authority of Roseville & Eastpointe

Nov. 13, 2022

Race at this annual in a 10K, 5K or one-mile fun run starting and ending at Recreational Authority of Roseville & Eastpointe.

Turkey ‘TRAIL’ Trot at Stony Creek Metropark

Nov. 24-25, 2022

Enjoy a Turkey Trot race at Stony Creek Metropark. Races depend on the day. This race event is 100% dirt trails including leaves, rocks and roots. No strollers will be allowed.


Moovin’ Thru the Midway 5K at Michigan State Fairgrounds 

Sept. 3, 2022

Runners of all ages and abilities can enjoy this race at the Michigan State Fair. Registration required and ends Aug. 31, 2022. 

9/11 Memorial 5K/10K at Bloomfield Hills High School 

Sept. 10, 2022

Enjoy a race through the beautiful neighborhood surrounding Bloomfield High School. All proceeds from the race will go to the Bloomfield Township Police Honor Guard. 

Gilda’s Family Walk and 5K Run at Royal Oak High School

  • Cost: $35/adult walk, $40/adult run, $20/child run ages 5-17, $15/child walk ages 5-17, $10/around town participant, free/ages 4 and under

Celebrating its 29th year, Gilda’s Walk and Run goes around Royal Oak and stops at Gilda’s Royal Oak Clubhouse.

Make A Move 5K/Trail Ride to Prevent Addiction at Sibley Square Park

Sept. 10, 2022

Participants can walk or run along the Michigan Airline Trail at this race in Sibley Square Park. Registration required.

Prove It 5K and 10K at Camp Dearborn

Sept. 10, 2022

Runners can choose between a 5K, 10K or both. There is even an economy package for runners that don’t want to t-shirt and medal. For ages 5-plus. 

Patriots Race at White Chapel Memorial Park

Sept. 11, 2022

Choose between a 10K, 5K or one-mile walk at White Chapel Memorial Park. All proceeds will benefit the Michigan veterans.

Run Wild for Detroit Zoo at the Detroit Zoo

Sept. 11, 2022

Check out this year’s Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo. Choose between a 5K run or a non-competitive fun walk. You will receive a medal, t-shirt and entry to the zoo. Registration required. 

Bucket Run 5K at Clarkston Community Church

Sept. 17, 2022

This 5K at Clarkston Community Church benefits Disaster Relief at Work’s (DRAW) mission of providing relief to communities that have been hit by a natural disaster.

Hometown Hustle at Chief Financial Credit Union 

Sept. 17, 2022

Participants can join in on Rochester Community Schools (RCS)’s timed or untimed fun walk/run. A one-mile superhero run is new this year.

Oral Cancer Awareness Michigan 5K at Kensington Metropark

Sept. 17, 2022

Enjoy this annual race for oral cancer awareness along the trails at Kensington Metropark. The first 100 will receive a gift bag on race day. Registration required.

Troy Family Daze 5K and Kids 1K Fun Run at Troy Civic Center

Sept. 18, 2022

Participate in your choice of a fun run or 5K walk or run at the Troy Civic Center. This event is a part of Troy Family Daze. 

Coffee Run 8 Mile and 5K at Indian Springs Metropark 

Sept. 24, 2022

Celebrate National Coffee Day 2022 with an eight-mile or 5K timed race. All race participants will receive a custom race shirt and finisher coffee mug.

Pumpkinfest 5K Run — Lead the Parade! at Millennium Middle School

Enjoy a fall run hosted by South Lyon High School Boys Cross Country. Register by Sept. 19 for a complimentary t-shirt.

Ortonville 5K Run/Walk at Harvey-Swanson Elementary School

Run along the streets of Ortonville Village on the sidewalks or in the road. All proceeds will go to Ortonville Lions Club.

The Bull Run for ALS of Michigan at Kensington Metropark

Head to Martindale Beach for a mile, 5K, 13K or both a 5K and 13K together. All proceeds will go to ALS of Michigan.

The New Foster Care 5K at Children’s Park

Join in on the annual 5K walk or run at Children’s Park to support The New Foster Care’s Bridge program participants. The entry fee includes a collectible race shirt, chip timing, custom bibs and snacks.

Kingsbury Country Day School Twilight 5K Run or Walk

In addition to the 5K race, a free fun glow run for younger runners will take place after the completion of the 5K race. Prizes will be awarded, too.

Harvest Hustle at Gunnar Mettala Park

Oktoberfest Run in Downtown Royal Oak

Moonshine Mile at Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales and Kitchen

This one-mile race is chip-timed. The post-race party will be at Jolly Pumpkin in Dexter. Registration required.

Up Cancer at Olson Park

Head to Olson Park in Ann Arbor and support Up Cancer with a 5K race. Virtual race options available, too. There will be music, refreshments and vendors at the finish line. Also, race t-shirts and awards.

Turner’s Trot Annual 5K Walk/Run at University of Michigan Gallup Park

Head to U-M’s Gallup Park for a walk/run in honor of Ryan Turner, a fourth-year dental student who passed away in Ann Arbor in 2007. For ages 18 and up.

Starving For A Cure — Gastroparesis Oral Health ‘Hybrid’ 5K Run/Walk at Country Farm Park

Treetown Tussle at Ann Arbor Running Company

Enjoy this 5K through the streets around Dicken Elementary School. Awards will take place in front of the school at 10:15 a.m. All finishers will receive a 5K sticker. 

A2Ypsi Marathon at Ann Arbor Running Company

Runners will begin at the Ann Arbor Running Company and end at The Factory for the finish party. There will be post-run Washtenaw Dairy Donuts and beverages.


In the Cut 5K at Historic Hines Drive Nankin Mills Recreation Area

Come out to Historic Hines Drive at the Nankin Mills Recreation Area to participate in a 5K walk/run or a one-mile cruiser run/walk.

Golden Harvest Run at the Plymouth Orchard & Cider Mill

Enjoy a fall run at Plymouth Orchard & Cider Mill and enjoy fresh cider at the finish line. Free registration is limited for the first 250 people. Strollers and dogs are allowed.

9th Annual Head for the Cure 5K — Detroit at Belle Isle Park

St. John’s Waltz Applefest 5K/10K

  • Cost: $30-$40/5K or 10K, $12-$20/one-mile fun run

Participants can choose between a 5K, 10K or one-mile fun run. Prizes will be given to the first-place male and female in 5K and 10K. Medals will be given to all participants.

Le Run for Le Rouge at Detroit City Fieldhouse

Join Detroit City Football Club for a family-friendly 5K fundraising event to help support youth soccer programs. After the race, there will be open field play at the Detroit City Fieldhouse, cornhole and other family-fun activities. All race participants receive a Le Run for Le Rouge t-shirt and a drink ticket. For ages 5-plus. 

Strategic Staffing Solutions Turkey Trot at Huntington Place

This annual offers several distances to choose from — the Strategic Staffing Solutions 10K Turkey Trot, the 5K Stuffing Strut and the family-friendly Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Mashed Potato Mile. All races finish ons Atwater, behind Huntington Place, next to Riverwalk.
