Was one of your New Year’s resolutions for 2023 to run a 5K or marathon, but you never got around to it? Then it’s time to get started on that goal this fall!

Here, find a list of upcoming fall running events to help push you to success. Sign up for some extra fun at a free walk/run or test your abilities ramp up your workout at a 5K or 10K race.


Art Fair 5K Run/Walk at River Bends Park

Aug. 10, 2023

Choose from a timed or untimed 5K walk/run when registering. Register online at or pick up a form at the Shelby Township Activities Center.

5th Annual IronMike 5K Run/Walk at Armada Township Park

Aug. 12, 2023

Choose from a 5K run or walk or a 1K fun run for the kiddos at this 5th annual event to honor the fallen Marine PFC, Michael Giannattasio. There will also be music, cornhole, Marine challenge, face painting, raffles and more. Registration required.

Detroit Wine Country 5K at Youngblood Vineyard

Aug. 20, 2023

Join Youngblood Vineyard for their 2nd Annual Detroit Wine Country 5K and 1 Mile Stumble. Awards will be given to top three males and females. Along with top male/female in each age group. Entry receives a souvenir wine glass, one glass of wine and a t-shirt. Bring the kids, too because they can enjoy goats, rabbits and chickens. Bring snacks or enjoy pizza, wine and other beverages, which will be available to purchase.

Michigan Peach Festival 5K/10K at Romeo Middle School

Aug. 31, 2023

Take part in Romeo Peach Festival’s annual 5K/10K race on the Thursday before Labor Day. All participants will receive a medal, while supplies last.

Tunnel to Towers 5K Run and Walk Metro Detroit at Lake Saint Clair Metropark 

Sept. 9, 2023 

This race is to honor first responders, remember 9/11 and raise funds for the Tunnel to Towers program. You may run or walk the 5K. Registration required.

Blake’s Monster Dash 5k Run/Walk at Blake’s Big Apple

Sept. 22, 2023 

This 5K run/walk is great for the whole family. Includes donut, cider, T-shirt, small pumpkin and admission to Spookyland area. Costume and finisher prizes, too. Registration required.

Tara’s 5K Run & Walk at Freedom Hill County Park 

Sept. 23, 2023

Join Turning Point, an agency whose mission is to empower domestic and sexual violence survivors through comprehensive services and resources, for their annual Tara’s Walk, in honor of Tara Grant. Advanced registration is recommended but on-site registration will be available.

Hot Cider Hustle – Detroit Half Marathon, 10K and 5K at Lake St. Clair Metropark

Oct. 8, 2023

Runners will choose between a half-marathon, 10K or 5K. There will be caramel apples and apple cider. Plus, a finisher mug for the runners. There will also be a 5K Kid’s Division Fun Run for ages 12 and under, too.

Westview Orchards Haunted Wine Run 5K at Westview Orchards & Winery

Oct. 29, 2023

This annual is great for all ages! Wine lovers (ages 21-plus) will love this Halloween-themed race at Westview Orchards & Winery. Registration includes a t-shirt, collapsible wine glass, race bib, finisher medal and wine pour.


5K/1K Building Brighter Futures Fun Run at Waterford Oaks County Park

Join Oakland Family Services for a Fun Run to celebrate building brighter futures for individuals and families in our community! Participants can choose to walk or run the 5K race or take part in the 1K race. The family-friendly activities include lawn games, music, face painting and more. Registration required. 

Milford Memories 1 Mile Fun Run/5K Run/5K Adventure Run! at Carl’s Family YMCA

Aug. 13, 2023

All races will start and finish at Carl’s Family YMCA downtown Milford. The 5K adventure race will feature six stations along the race course where participants will need to complete additional fitness challenges. Registration required. 

Moovin Thru the Midway 5K at Michigan State Fairgrounds

Sept. 2, 2023

Runners of all ages and abilities can enjoy this race at the Michigan State Fair. Participants will receive a finisher medal, t-shirt, race photos, ultimate admission ticket to the fair, free Sweetwaters coffee, free pint of Guernsey Farms milk and more. Registration required. 

Gilda’s Family Walk and 5K Run at Royal Oak High School 

Sept. 9, 2023

  • Address: 1500 Lexington Blvd., Royal Oak
  • Cost: $35/adult walk, $40/adult run, $20/child run ages 5-17, $15/child walk ages 5-17, $10/around town participant, free/ages 4 and under

Celebrating its 30th year, Gilda’s Walk and Run goes around Royal Oak and stops at Gilda’s Royal Oak Clubhouse.

Oral Cancer Awareness Michigan 5K at Kensington Metropark

Sept. 9, 2023

Enjoy this annual race for oral cancer awareness along the trails at Kensington Metropark. The first 100 will receive a gift bag on race day. Registration required.

Patriots Race at White Chapel Memorial Park

Sept. 10, 2023

Choose between a 10K, 5K or one-mile walk at White Chapel Memorial Park. All proceeds will benefit the Michigan veterans.

Run Wild for Detroit Zoo at the Detroit Zoo

Sept. 10, 2023

Check out this year’s Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo. Choose between a 5K run or a non-competitive fun walk. You will receive a medal, t-shirt, post-race party with complimentary food, drinks and children’s activities and entry to the zoo following the race. Registration required.  

Bucket Run 5K at Clarkston Community Church

Sept. 16, 2023 

 This 5K at Clarkston Community Church benefits Disaster Relief at Work’s (DRAW) mission of providing relief to communities that have been hit by a natural disaster. 

Ortonville 5K Run/Walk at Harvey-Swanson Elementary School 

Sept. 17, 2023 

Run along the streets of Ortonville Village on the sidewalks or in the road. All proceeds will go to Ortonville Lions Club. 

Golden Grizzlies 5k/10k 2023 at Oakland University

Sept. 24, 2023

Runners can join The Oakland University Cross Country and Track & Field programs to race around the track at the university. Choose from a 5K walk/run or a 10K. This year, there will be medals for all finishers. Registration required.

Pumpkinfest 5K Run at South Lyon High School 

Sept. 30, 2023

Enjoy a fall run hosted by South Lyon High School Boys Cross Country. There will be awards and refreshments after the run at Kent Lake.

9th Annual Forever Home Run at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church

Oct. 7, 2023

The Forever Home Run began in 2015 as a partnership between Legacy Adoption Service and Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church to raise awareness and funding to support foster children waiting for their forever families. This in-person event offers two races: a 5k and a 1k Dress-Up Dash. You are welcome to wear your favorite costume to both. There will also be children’s activities. community vendors, finisher medals and prizes for overall winners. Virtual race option available. Registration required.

Oktoberfest Run in Downtown Royal Oak

The Hawk Hustle 5K Run/Walk at The Hawk in Farmington Hills

The 17th Annual KDB Melanoma 5K at Kensington Metropark 

Oct. 15, 2023

Participate in a 5K walk/run to honor the memory of Kathy Bowers and raise awareness and funds for the prevention of melanoma.

Michigan Monster Dash at Kensington Metropark

Oct. 28, 2023

Participants are encouraged to come dressed in costume and take part in a half-marathon, 10K, 5K or 1K Kids Run.

Support pediatric brain cancer research with a one-mile walk/run or 5K. All participants that register before Aug. 22 will receive a race shirt.

Treetown Tussle at Ann Arbor Running Company 

Sept. 24, 2023

This race will start and end at Ann Arbor Running Company and includes a 13.1-plus-mile trail-route. Post-run snacks, too. Registration required.  

Probility Ann Arbor Marathon

Oct. 1, 2023

  • Address: 617 S. 5th Ave., Ann Arbor
  • Cost: $270-plus/marathon relay, $135-plus/marathon, $115-plus/half-marathon, $65-plus/10K, $50-plus/5K, free/kids’ marathon & kid’s half-marathon

Choose to run or walk a marathon, marathon relay, half-marathon, 10K, 5K, Kids’ “Marathon” and Kids’ “Half-Marathon.” Virtual options are available. 

The Dickens Run — 5K at Dicken Elementary School

Enjoy this 5K through the streets around Dicken Elementary School. Awards will take place in front of the school at 9:45 a.m. All finishers will receive a 5K sticker. 


2023 Dearborn Decades 5K at Ford Field Park

Aug. 6, 2023

Celebrate the 60s at the 2023 Dearborn Decades 5K at Ford Field Park. Choose an in-person or virtual option. Participants will receive a finisher medal. There will also be post-race food and drinks. Registration required. 

Steps Against Suicide 5K Event at Ford Field Park

Aug. 12, 2023

Steps Against Suicide will be hosting a 5K along with mental health activities and resources, music, food and drinks and raffles. Children and dogs are welcome. All dogs must be on a leash. Registration required. 

In the Cut 5K at Historic Hines Drive Nankin Mills Recreation Area

Sept. 2, 2023

Come out to Historic Hines Drive at the Nankin Mills Recreation Area to participate in a 5K walk/run or a one-mile cruiser run/walk.

Women Run the D at Belle Isle State Park 

Sept. 10, 2023

The race will start and finish at the James Scott Memorial Fountain. Registration includes a t-shirt, professional race photos, post-race breakfast, finisher medal and more.

14th Annual Zaman Run Walk Picnic at Ford Field Park

Sept. 23, 2023

Participate in a family-friendly walk or run at Ford Field Park. There will be activities and food for all. Family activities include a petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, photo station and more.

Blue Ribbon Run at Woodhaven Recreation Center

Oct. 8, 2023

Choose to run either a one-mile race or a 5K run. Strollers and dogs on leashes are allowed at the one-mile race but not the 5K. Winter beanies will be given to all registrants. Registration required.
