Snowman Portrait Craft Project

We haven’t had all that that much snow this January (the nice, accumulating, packable kind, anyway). So the opportunities to make snowmen have been, alas, few and far between. If your little crafters are in the mood for a snowman, though, why not have them make a snowman portrait? It’s fun and easy, and doesn’t require the kiddos to bundle up and brave the cold temps. Keep it in a frame inside for display at home or at the office for instant snowy fun – whether or not Mother Nature cooperates.

Materials

  • 4-by-6-inch frame
  • Cardstock in various colors
  • 2 cotton balls
  • Glue stick
  • Puffy paint
  • Scissors

Instructions

1. Start out by cutting a piece of cardstock the size of the frame.
2. After this, add the background decorations you like. I added a snowy hill, a small sun and a cup of cocoa.
3. Once the decorations are done, it’s time to prepare the cotton balls. Take one cotton ball and gently stretch it to make it larger. This will be the base of the snowman. Apply the bottom snowball to your cardstock scene.

4. Next, take your second cotton ball and pull it in half. Once again, gently stretch the half to make it a little bit larger. Glue this middle snowball on top of the snowman base.

5. With the other half of the cotton ball you pulled apart, remove an additional amount of cotton so the snowman’s head is the smallest snowball. Glue to the top of the snowman.

6. With your puffy paint, add eyes, a smile and arms. With a marker, add your name and the date. Let the entire piece dry.

7. Once the scene is dry, remove the glass from the frame and discard. Place the frame on top of the scene and secure the back.
