The Ugly Duckling and The Tortoise and the Hare

Join a misfit bird and a hardworking tortoise for a glow-in-the-dark stage adventure on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012 at the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts in Detroit.

Using innovative electroluminescent puppetry, the folks at Light Wire Theater and Corbian Visual Arts and Dance put a dazzling twist on a pair of classic tales: Hans Christian Andersen's The Ugly Duckling and Aesop's fable The Tortoise and the Hare.

Following their breakout success Darwin the Dinosaur, the Corbian crew brings back their signature blend of theater and technology to share the stories of a duckling searching for acceptance and a boastful hare learning the value of hard work and perseverance.

On a darkened stage, performers dressed in all black operate eye-popping 3D wire characters amid glowing props and music ranging from jazz to pop.

Clocking in at an easy one hour, the amped-up production is apt to hold the interest of even the most restless kids (and their parents, too!).

Catch the show at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12. Tickets are $7 for kids and $17 for adults, and can be bought online, over the phone or at the Music Hall box office.
