A family-friendly vegan food expo and tasting opportunity organized by VegMichigan is returning for its 20th year. Catch the annual VegFest from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 28, 2019 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi.
The vegan diet, which involves avoiding all foods that come from animals and the use of animal-derived products, has been called one of the fastest growing lifestyle movements in the world.
According to research commissioned by The Vegan Society and Vegan Life magazine in 2016, there are about three and a half times as many vegans as there were in 2006.
With more health food shops and vegan restaurants gaining traction in the United States, it might just be time to check out what veganism is all about.
There will be no shortage of fresh and socially conscious eats at the event, with more than 150 restaurants and vendors on site offering free samples of their latest dishes and products.
Cooking demonstrations and classes will also be available for vegan foodies looking to try out some new ideas and experiment with their plates.
Little vegans can head over to the Kids Zone, which will feature games, coloring, bounce houses, juggling performances, crafts, face painting, and much more.
Additionally, for any attendee excited to learn more about veganism, a collection of speakers will be talking to audiences about their experiences being vegan, plus the health, environmental and ethical benefits of the diet.
Included in the line-up are Hollywood celebrity and plant-based advocate Alicia Silverston, nutrition expert and bestselling author Dr. Michael Greger, Red Wings’ dietitian Lisa McDowell, founder and director of Barn Sanctuary Dan McKernan and many others.

Visitors can also shop from the nearly 100 exhibitors selling healthy, natural and fair trade products. While browsing, there’s also ample opportunity to learn about education organizations, nonprofits and animal defense groups.
Admission to VegMichigan’s VegFest is $12.50 (plus processing fees) if you buy tickets online. They are $17 at the door. Kids ages 5 and younger get in free.
