Imagine a table full of endless pizza, topped with classic pairings like pepperoni or exotic pizza combos such as Coney Island and bleu cheeseburger pizzas. And you can have as much pizza of as many different types as you can handle.
Sounds like a kid's wildest dream, right? Well, they can make that dream a reality with a visit to American Pie in Warren.
American Pie – Warren
American Pie is a locally based chain with headquarters in Warren. Owner Jared Kwiatkowski based the shop on one he'd visit when on business outside Atlanta. He liked the fun, family friendly atmosphere and the great pizza. When the opportunity came to buy the brand because the Atlanta place was closing, he decided to bring it to his hometown of Detroit. American Pie opened in 2006.
"My whole life I have always wanted be an entrepreneur," he says. "I decided to open up a restaurant and follow my dreams, and that's what I've been doing ever since."
American Pie has a rotating list of 40 pizzas, served all-you-can-eat buffet style with about 20 out at any given time. Kwiatkowski says if customers come in and one of their favorites isn't being served, they can just put in a request and have it out in about 15 minutes. The buffet price of $9 for adults and $6.50 for children includes a drink and unlimited pizza, pasta and salad.
Kids especially like the mac 'n' cheese pizza and the "white out," which features alfredo sauce and mozzarella cheese. And the salad bar is "the best around," Kwiatkowski says, with iceberg or romaine lettuce and 15 different toppings for any kind of salad creation.
The atmosphere is Hollywood-themed, with a 1970s and '80s feel reminiscent of the original American Pie in Georgia. "It's an all-around fun place where families can have a good dinner for a good cost," Kwiatkowski says.
