Annie the Musical Plays the Fisher Theater in Detroit

Between classwork and carpools, it's a hard-knock life for southeast families for sure. So why not pep up with a kid-friendly theater treat shimmering with silver linings? Beloved musical Annie is playing the Fisher Theatre in Detroit Sept. 26-28 and Oct. 1-4, 2014 – and we suspect it's your ticket to "easy street" (or will at least leave you "fully dressed" with a smile or two).

This stage show centers on an unflappably bubbly orphan girl whose path crosses with a millionaire businessman Oscar "Daddy" Warbucks. A heart-warming charmer, it's been delighting audiences since 1977. Now is a prime time to introduce your own tykes to the magic!

Opening night is a great option. That's because the Friday, Sept. 26 performance is "Kids Night on Broadway." Arrive early, at 6 p.m., for pre-show kids activities and giveaways, craft projects from Arts & Scraps in Detroit and free "Annie & Sandy's SMILE Ice Cream" from Treat Dreams of Ferndale (Sandy is Annie's trusty pooch).

Don't want to bet your bottom dollar? Try Friday, Oct. 3. That's when half-price tickets are available for families, for up to four tickets. (Note that there were half-price tickets available for Sept. 26 as well, but those are now sold out. Check ahead to be sure the Oct. 3 special pricing still applies when you go to order your tickets.)

This touring production of Annie comes to town by way of Broadway in Detroit and plays the following times:

  • Friday, Sept. 26*: 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, Sept. 27: 2 and 7:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, Sept. 28*: 1 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 1*: 7:30 p.m. (special open-captioned performance)
  • Thursday, Oct. 2: 1 and 7:30 p.m.
  • Friday, Oct. 3: 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 4: 2 and 7:30 p.m.

*Note: Per Ticketmaster, not many tickets are left for these dates as of Sept. 25.

The show runs two hours and 45 minutes. Babes in arms are not permitted, though young theatergoers who can sit through the performance are welcome. Tickets start at about $40.
