Beauty and the Beast Jr. at the Village Theater at Cherry Hill in Canton

The tale as old as time comes to the Village Theater at Cherry Hill in Canton Oct. 18-21, 2012, as Spotlight on Youth presents Beauty and the Beast Jr., a family-friendly musical with characters everyone in the family will know.

Favorites like Belle, the Beast, Gaston and the enchanted inhabitants of the castle – like Mrs. Potts and Lumiere the candlestick – will come to life on stage. The Spotlight on Youth theater group presents this re-telling of the classic story about learning to not judge someone's character by their appearance.

Spotlight on Youth consists of local families who share a love of theater and bring enthusiastic stories to life on stage. Sibling performers and parent aides have worked together to rehearse, create costumes and sets and practice song and dance numbers for the performance.

Director Barbara Bloom of Novi says that the production will appeal to all ages, featuring many of the hit songs from the Disney movie and Broadway production.

"It has charm, humor, drama and endearing characters with spectacular costumes, sets and a magical rose!" she says. "Especially good for little ones, as it runs about one and a half hours with an intermission, so they don't have to sit too long."

Purchase tickets for $15. Show times for Beauty and the Beast Jr. are as follows:

  • Thursday-Friday: 7 p.m.
  • Saturday-Sunday: 2 and 7 p.m.
