Gimme, Gimme! Missoni for Target

Italian designer Missoni has arrived at Target, creating quite a stir in stores and online – selling out nationwide and causing the company’s site to crash on Tuesday.

The iconic line known for its colorful zig-zag patterns partnered with Target to create an affordable collection for kids, parents and the home. While the store has collaborated with Isaac Mizrahi and Jean Paul Gaultier in the past, Missoni’s popularity surpassed these two designers.

Shoppers lined up hours before Target stores opened, hoping to get their hands on the hot brand at a fraction of the designer prices. Missoni clothes at Neiman Marcus or other high-end retailers usually cost hundreds of dollars a piece. But the company’s 400-piece line for Target has things for your toddler like leggings for $19.99, a tunic for $24.99 and a coat for $39.99 – quite a difference from the line’s usual prices.

Still, that hasn’t stopped parents from complaining that the Missoni-Target collaboration is overpriced. Twenty bucks for toddler leggings isn’t exactly a bargain. But, for an article of clothing designed by such a high-end collection, it is, and clearly many a fashion-conscious mama thought the price was well worth seeing her little one decked out in the designer duds. Whether you agree with the price or not, you can’t deny the pieces are so vibrant in pink, green and purple – and super-adorable.

If you’re looking to snag some pieces, you can check your local store to see if any items are still in stock. The company does anticipate limited quantities of items to trickle in until the end of the week, but Target stores were not expecting to restock. Still, with the hot demand, it’s hard to imagine that Target won’t be launching Missoni for Target 2.0. If you can’t chance it or don’t want to wait, some things are still available on Target.com and shoppers are even selling items on eBay.
