Harold and the Purple Crayon at the Detroit Opera House

Who knew a little bit of imagination and a crayon could take you so far?

Back in 1955, Crockett Johnson used that concept to create the classic tale Harold and the Purple Crayon. It's the story of a curious boy who "wants to go for a walk in the moonlight, but there is no moon. So he draws one." And, with the help of his purple crayon, Harold can go just about anywhere.

Now, his purple crayon and infinite imagination lead him to the stage at the Detroit Opera House for two shows on Saturday, March 3, 2012. Thanks to Hubbard Street Dance 2, a Chicago-based dance company, the story comes to life in this hour-long interactive dance show. The performance debuted in 2010 and sold out – so, lucky for southeast Michigan families, the troupe decided to revive it!

Catch the show at 11 a.m. or 2:30 p.m. Tickets range from $10-$20.
