Venture into the Book of Genesis and follow the story of Joseph and his extra special magical dreamcoat at the beloved musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Oct. 23-24, 2015, coming to the Fox Theatre in Detroit. His story begins with him and ends with you.
The birth of Joseph meant the world to his father, Israel, and as a celebration, Israel made a coat with all colors of the rainbow.
This poses as a problem for Joseph’s 11 older brothers, who grow jealous believing their father loves Joseph more than he loves them. Their hatred grows after Joseph starts having dreams about the future and telling them about it.
To get rid of him, his 11 brothers end up selling him to merchants, who take him to Egypt. They returned the coat to their father, covered in animal blood, leading Israel to believe Joseph was “devoured” by animals.
For more than five years, Joseph goes through ups and downs but manages to make a life in Egypt. His life comes together until the day he sees his brothers after many years. How will Joseph react? Will he and his brothers find peace among each other?
The biblical story of Joseph and his dreamcoat is one of the world’s most performed musicals, shown at schools, churches and amateur societies for several decades.
Gather the household together to see one of the most enduring family musicals. Both shows are at 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday. Tickets range $30-$70.
