A Summer Classic Returns: Dairy Park

Two local moms have brought back Dairy Park, a long-beloved ice cream spot in located in Hazel Park that specializes in the Dumbo Delight.

When Dairy Park, a long-beloved ice cream spot in Hazel Park, closed in 2016, the next year, local moms Jennifer Sexton and Bridget Raies decided to breathe life back into the place they loved as kids.

These best friends met when they were 10 years old, living two blocks apart. Now 42 with kids of their own, they’re reviving their summer spot for a new generation.

“It’s an icon for us and we wanted to bring it back,” says Raies of Sterling Heights.

Officially opened in April 2017, the shop sells cotton candy, fried goodies, Detroit pops and –
of course – ice cream, including its specialty, the Dumbo Delight.

But not before Raies and Sexton, who lives in Warren, remodeled the 1954 building, keeping it the same as they remember.

“We put a lot of hard work and soul into this place,” Raies says. Now, kids all over town can get a taste – including the duo’s own tween kids, who couldn’t wait to get their hands on a cone.

“They can indulge in our childhood favorites.”
