The Little Librarian

Sifting through the card catalog. The dreaded overdue slip. Ah, those classic library memories. Of course, these days, the experience has been digitally remastered (though late fees will never go extinct!). But with the Little Librarian, kids can play old-school library – and cement some solid educational skills.

The kit has everything the avid reader needs to start her library – except books from her personal collection. She can dress those up with the included staples like book pockets, book cards and bookmarks. Your kid can invite friends over to check out books from her stash – the four included library cards get the job done – and, just like a real librarian, she can issue everything reading awards to those pesky overdue slips (she'll get six).

All the fun of the library comes home with this set. (Hint: We suggest making some photocopies of the slips before they're all filled-in, to extend its shelf life.) Kids can learn about organizing and alphabetizing, to boot – plus, your child can keep a reading journal (also included) and add to her book collection each year.

Purchase the kit at the Northville District Library Friends, located at 212 W. Cady St.
