War Horse at the Fisher Theatre in Detroit

Winner of five 2011 Tony Awards, The National Theatre of Great Britain's War Horse will premiere center stage Dec. 17, 2013-Jan. 5, 2014 at the Fisher Theatre in Detroit. A tale of loyalty and friendship, this story is adapted from the children's novel War Horse by Michael Morpurgo, chronicling the relationship of Albert and his beloved horse, Joey, who was enlisted to fight for the English in World War I.

A dynamic story for the whole family to enjoy, most of it is told from Joey's perspective. The show, which runs close to three hours, has "stirring" music and songs and "some of the most innovative stagecraft of our time," War Horse is presented in association with Handspring Puppet Company, who craft life-sized puppets and bring them to life on stage.

Kids' night pre-show activities take place Dec. 19 in the Fisher Theatre lobby where the little ones will have to opportunity to make their own War Horse and other holiday crafts, courtesy of Arts and Scraps in Detroit. Kids will also be able to interact with cast members and sample free ice cream from Ferndale-based Treat Dreams – while supplies last!

Tickets range from $30 to $90. Show times are as follows:

  • Tuesday-Friday: 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 2 and 7:30 p.m.
