Movie in the park events are a fun family outing for all ages. Here are some happenings in metro Detroit and Ann Arbor for summer 2021.

Looking for something fun the whole family can enjoy together this summer? Check out one of the many parks in southeast Michigan that are offering movies for families to enjoy outside in their local area.

Bring a chair or blanket, snacks and drinks to watch a flick on the big screen. This outdoor event offers fun for everyone and some even have music and other fun activities for kids before the movie begins.

Check ahead to see if you need to register and follow social distancing protocols, if necessary.

Friday Night Movies at New Center Park

June 4-Aug. 20, 2021 (Fridays)

Enjoy a mix of new and old family films. Movies begin at dusk. Any cancellations will be announced on social media. See Trolls on June 4, Tom and Jerry on July 9, Avengers: Endgame on Aug. 13, more.

Movies in the Park in Chesterfield

July 6, 13, 20 and 27, 2021

Enjoy Homeward Bound on July 6, Secret Life of Pets 2 on July 13, Ugly Dolls on July 20 and Peter Rabbit on July 27.

Movies at the Beach &Family Fun Nights

July 9 and Aug. 13, 2021

See Tom & Jerry on July 9 and Trolls World Tour on Aug. 13. Themed activities for each movie take place from 8-9 p.m. Free with park entry.

Reels by the Riverside

July 10, 2021 

Head down to Knight Amphitheater at the park for a family movie. Sonic the Hedgehog takes place in July and will begin at dusk.

Movie Night in the D

July 10, 17, 24, 31; Aug. 6, 14, 21 and 28, 2021

Head downtown to see a movie with your friends or family. Kids movies take place on July 17 (Over the Moon), Aug. 6 (Cars 2), Aug. 21 (Raya and the Dragon) and Aug. 28 (Onward).

Movies in the Park at Garden City Park

July 10, Aug. 14 and Sept. 18, 2021 

Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a movie with your family. Raya and the Last Dragon is on July 10, Croods: A New Age is on Aug. 14 and Jumanji: The Next Level is on Sept. 18.

Summer Movie Fest

July 12, 19, 2021

Bring your blankets, chairs and coolers to watch Disney’s Zootopia (July 12) and The Black Panther(July 19). Alcohol is prohibited.

Music and Movies in the Park

July 14, 21, 28, 2021 

Head to the Civic Center to enjoy an outdoor family-friendly film. July 14 is Croods, July 21 is Trolls World Tour and July 28 is Cars 3. Bring your own food and drinks (concessions will not be available). Alcohol and glass containers are prohibited.

Family Movie Camp Out

July 16-17 2021

Address: Independence Park, 1898 Denton Road, Canton

Families can enjoy RV or tent camping with a movie beginning at dusk. Games, activities and entertainment will take place before the movie with dinner and concessions sold that night. The following day, there will be breakfast for sale. Pre-registration is required.

Outdoor Movie Night at Booth Park

July 16 and Aug. 13, 2021

Their showing of the movie Elf is the perfect way to celebrate “Christmas in July.” In August, check out Disney’s Cars.

Movies in the Park at Dearborn City Hall

July 16 and Sept 3, 2021

Bring a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy a movie at city hall. Movie begins at dusk. July 16 is Dora: The City of Gold and My Spy is on Sept. 3. Registration required.

Movies in the Moonlight

July 17, 24, 31 and Aug. 13, 2021

Movies begin at dusk and are free. Bring your own chair. The movies are Aladdin (July 17), Grease(July 24), Jumanji: Next Level (July 31) and Frozen II (Aug. 13). There will be mini donuts, popcorn, slushies, bottled water and coffee for sale. No glass containers or alcohol are allowed.

Family Movie Nights at the Village of Rochester Hills

July 23, Aug. 20 and Sept. 10, 2021

Enjoy dining and shopping at the mall before the movie begins. Shrek is on July 23, Picture Perfect on Aug. 20 and La La Land on Sept. 10.

Movie Under the Stars & Family Fun Night

Aug. 6, 2021

The movie of the night is, Yes Day. It begins at dusk around 9 p.m. Free glow stick bracelets will be given. Jets Pizza and other concessions will be available to purchase.

Movies in the Park at Wagner Park

Aug. 13, 2021

Enjoy the movie, Dolittle at the park beginning at dusk. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Registration required.

Movies in the Park at Heritage Park

Aug. 28, 2021

Heritage Park Amphitheater will show Disney’s Onward. Pre-registration required.
