New Zimriyah Concert & Matzah Factory in West Bloomfield

For more than two decades, families have been making the trip to the Matzah Factory at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield. Here, children learn the art of matzah (traditional bread for Passover) making with the help of local volunteers.

Now, thanks to the more-than-10-year contribution of a local couple, the tradition of matzah making continues. On March 18, 2012, the Barbara and Douglas Bloom Matzah Factory will be in full swing, along with the New Zimriyah Concert.

Held annually, the Barbara and Douglas Bloom Matzah Factory welcomes between 1,200 and 1,500 people. This is a great opportunity to keep Passover traditions alive – while giving local parents the chance to reminisce about their childhood and years of Passover activities. The Blooms lead hundreds of Jewish families in Passover activities like making matzah, learning the symbols of the Passover Seder table and making crafts.

The Matzah Factory is open from 1 to 2 p.m. and 4 to 5 p.m. on March 18, 2012. At 2:30 p.m. the same day, enjoy the New Zimriyah Concert, which is part of the JCC Stephen Gottlieb Music Festival – taking place March 15-25.

New Zimriyah is comprised of 120 children from eight kids' choirs – all from local Jewish religious schools – who will showcase their musical talents for families for just $4 per person. The theme of this year's performance is "Shalom – Peace."

Not able to attend this open-to-the-public event, but still want to make matzah? You've got one more chance – from 1 to 4 p.m. on March 25, 2012. Don't miss out!
