Ready for liftoff! The popular space-themed playground at Westland’s Tattan Park has been completely revamped and is ready for your little one’s next adventure!
Thanks to a $3 million makeover from the Downtown Development Authority, the out-of-this-world play area located at 1901 N. Carlson St., Westland, has been transformed into the “Mission to Mars” playground.
The inclusive playground revamped its rocket-shaped climbing structures and space-themed slides. New playground additions include Mars Rover jungle gyms and sandpits that mimic the dusty red planet. “Mission to Mars” has ADA-compliant surfacing and sensory play, and several new structures were added to be age and ability inclusive so every child can get in on the space mission fun.
Tattan Park’s interactive splash pad also received a facelift. The water play area is now decked out with dinosaur-themed decor and includes water sprayers, a dino-mite water dump bucket and exciting sound and light features. New splash pad entry points were added to increase parking lot circulation and safety. Plus, a new central seating space allows parents to keep an eye on kiddos at both play areas.
In addition to new play spaces for kids of all ages, the park’s expansion added picnic shelters, modern restroom facilities, a concession stand, a year-round event space and a structure for the Westland Farms Market.
Also located at the park is the Concrete Jungle Skate Park, a 17,000-square-foot park with three bowls, a large half pipe, ramps, a 10-stair ramp with handrail and more.
