Southeast Michigan Wineries and Wine Bars Moms and Dads Will Love

Parents who need a break from the daily grind can enjoy a glass of vino at these local wineries.

Daily life juggling work, kids and household duties get really stressful — and every now and then, it’s nice to kick back and take the edge off. For some parents, that might be an evening filled with a few glasses of wine and good conversation with grown-up friends.

If that sounds appealing to you, book your babysitter and head to one of these wineries in Macomb, Oakland, Wayne or Washtenaw counties. They offer great atmosphere and delicious options for you to try.

Macomb

Cellar 104

This “boutique winery” offers a wide variety of red and white wines including Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio and more. All wines from the Signature Collection are aged for a minimum of 14 months and those from the Reserves Collection are aged 24 months.

Owl Wineries 

Address: 28087 Gratiot Ave., Roseville

This spot offers 100% fruit wines (that is, wine without the grapes) that are guaranteed Michigan-made. Sip its Sweet Apple, strawberry, blackberry, Dry Harvest Apple and more.

Superior Lakes Mead, Wine and Cider

Choose from a wide selection of meads, ciders and wines. Currently, wines on tap include the Festival Red, Red Dragon and Pinot Grigio. Be sure to try the legacy wine, the Superior Lakes Dark Cherry Shiraz.

Unwined Winery

Enjoy a selection of red, white, burgundy, sweet, specialty and barrel-aged wines by the bottle or the glass.

Youngblood Vineyard

Try a flight, glass or bottle of your favorite wines at this spot’s outdoor tasting room. Try the wood-fired pizzas with your selection.

Oakland

Cooper’s Hawk Winery and Restaurant

Both local locations offer a tasting room so that you can try your selection before you buy. Available wines rotate. Become a member of the wine club for dining rewards, monthly wine tasting and more.

Elie Wine Company 

This spot has been offering the best in French and Spanish wines for more than 25 years. Offerings rotate so be sure to visit often to try as many as you can.

Michigan By The Bottle Tasting Room 

These tasting rooms in our area showcase wines from wineries all over the state including those along the Michigan Shore Wine Trail, Leelanau Peninsula and others. Try the wines by the flight, glass or bottles. Tasting menus vary by location.

Paissa Wine Cellar 

This boutique retail wine shop is located in Pontiac’s historic district and hosts tasting events one Thursday each month to benefit local charities. It offers a rotating selection of wines and beers for you to try.

St. Julian Winery and Distillery

St. Julian originally opened back in 1923 as Motor City Wine Co. Today, it offers a tasting room, wine flights, hard ciders, cocktails and more. Be sure to try the grown-up slushies and the Braganini Reserve.

Wayne

Detroit Vineyards

Reserve your spot to taste a rotating selection of five wines chosen by the winemaker. Glass and bottle options available, too.

House of Pure Vin

House of Pure Vin boasts being Detroit’s premier wine shop. It offers on-demand wine tastings and an outdoor lounging area. Join the wine club for special discounts.

MotorCity Wine 

It’s a mixture of wine shop and wine bar that offers a large selection of wines to try that isn’t too overwhelming for newer wine enthusiasts.

The Northville Winery

Try this spot’s Merlot or Floyd Rose. It also has beers, hard cider and non-alcoholic options.

Vinter’s Canton Winery

This custom winery allows you to create your own wines and personalized labels. Visit the tasting room to sample the wines and be sure to watch out for special tasting events. 

Washtenaw  

Ann Arbor Tasting Room at Cherry Republic

Cherry Republic offers all things cherry — including wines made with Michigan cherries. Call the store for current wine tasting offerings and store hours. 

Chateau Aeronautique Winery & Blue Skies Brewery 

An airline pilot, Lorenzo Lizarralde, founded this winery, which makes its wine on a grass runway. There are three locations in Michigan where you can try the wines by the flight, glass or bottle.

Paesano Restaurant and Wine Bar

This spot offers a range of Italian wines, tasting events, wine education classes, special promotions and much more. Wine lists are available by the glass or bottle. Cocktails, too. 

Sandhill Crane Vineyards

This family-owned and operated vineyard makes its wine with 100% Michigan-grown fruit. The wine list of constantly changing. Look for discounts on the “Wine of the Month.”
