Fairy Tale Festival at the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House

Once upon a time, this magical kids event arrived in Grosse Pointe Shores to celebrate classic folklore. Now it's back on Aug. 4, 2012 for year two!

Find yourself immersed in a world of enchantment and folklore as fairy tales spring to life Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012 with music, theater, activities, storytelling and more during the Fairy Tale Festival at the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe.

In the second year of this festival, which is sponsored in part by Metro Parent, kids can meet their favorite characters and enjoy the beautiful singing princesses strolling around the grounds. There are a number of hands-on events, too, including a playful sword fighting station!

The focus of this year's festival is celebrating the 200th anniversary of the first published story collection from the Brothers Grimm.

The festival is accompanied by two exhibits, which run from July 28 until Nov. 4:

  • Once Upon a Time: Grimmly Inspired features historic illustrations from the Detroit Public Library, accompanied by original works of art created by community adults and student artists. The pieces are folks' own interpretations of Grimm stories and will be displayed in an area transformed to look and feel like you've wandered into a fairy tale.
  • The Storybook Landscape Discovery Trail weaves throughout the grounds of the Ford House, where you can use adventure maps and discover hidden treasure chests and areas for families to enjoy reading, playing games and completing activities.

In addition to the festival and exhibits, there are special programs that kids, adults and families can participate in.
