Día de los Muertos (also known as Day of the Dead), is a Mexican holiday celebrated the first two days in November that commemorates lost loved ones with colorful ofrendas (altars), calacas (skeletons), calaveras (skulls), spoken word performances, food and so much more.
Families in metro Detroit celebrate this holiday at many community events and in a wide variety of different ways. Here, we’ve rounded up some great Día de los Muertos events in metro Detroit for 2025.

Ofrendas: Celebrating el Día de Muertos
Sept. 27-Nov. 2, 2025 (Tuesdays-Sundays)

The DIA and the Mexican Consulate of Detroit partner to put on this display, which features ofrendas altars created by members of the community.
Día de los Muertos Celebration at Farmington Public Library

Families can celebrate Día de los Muertos to remember and honor those we have lost. Decorate sugar skull cookies and learn all about the holiday. Bring a picture of your loved one.
