Detroit Lions fans know hot dogs, nachos, beer and almonds are the stars of Ford Field’s game day menu. But not for long. Instead of trying to sneak in celery sticks, try the improved choices debuting this fall.
You’ll soon find 65 healthy food options during home games – plus concerts and other sporting events here. That’s because Saint Joseph Mercy Health System teamed up with the Lions to offer its Healthy Choice program.
“This will help parents identify for themselves and their children those foods that are healthy options,” says Lisa McDowell, board-certified specialist in sports dietetics as well as director of clinical nutrition with Saint Joseph. The new menu picks are lower in sodium, saturated fat, total fat and cholesterol, the hospital’s website adds. Dishes include new veggies like zucchini for more nutrients, vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants.

Here’s a look at a few of the 65 options you’ll find at Ford Field this fall.
Taste Club Kids Meal
- Grilled chicken tenders with honey-mustard dipping sauce
- Turkey and cheddar sandwich on whole wheat bread
- All come with a side of fresh fruit, carrot and celery sticks and a granola bar
Suite Menu
- Rosemary garlic chicken with roasted potatoes
- A high protein vegetarian salad with kale, tofu and chickpeas
- The “ZLT” flatbread sandwich with zucchini, romaine lettuce and vine-ripened tomatoes
- Salmon sliders with cucumber dill sauce
- Spicy turkey chili with roasted tomatillo and white beans
