Ice Age Unfrozen at the Michigan Science Center

Starting to feel the chill of fall roll in? Well, things are about to get a whole lot colder when the ice age comes back to life in Detroit, Sept. 27, 2014-Jan. 3, 2015, at the Michigan Science Center's newest exhibit, Ice Age Unfrozen.

This exhibit will bring the inner paleontologist out of anyone as it brings robotic woolly mammoths, saber tooth cats, dire wolves and other fascinating beasts – both feared and hunted by their ancestors – to the halls of the center, and offers a look at this dangerous time period in our world's history.

Visitors can learn how each of these now extinct animals lived and how the earth evolved in the years following the death of the dinosaurs.

Couple the exhibit with the new IMAX show, Titans of the Ice Age. Through the use of computer-generated imagery, Titans of the Ice Age brings the ice age to life in a whole new way as viewers are transported over the frozen landscapes of North America, Europe and Asia for a peek into a day in the lives of the creatures that lived there.

For admission to the Michigan Science Center, access to the exhibit at the IMAX show, tickets are $22 for adults and $19 for children. If you want to just check out the exhibit, admission is $18 for adults and $15 for children.

Times are as follows:

  • Wednesday-Friday: 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Sunday: noon-6 p.m.
