Halloween Kids Crafts: A Maker’s Halloween

Americans like to buy Halloween costumes, decorations and craft supplies – a lot, according to a story in The Atlantic last fall. It was estimated that more than $7 billion dollars would be spent on the holiday last year. Can you believe it?! The answer is probably “yes,” based on those numbers! Retailers have responded to those 2014 figures in 2015 with more options, from kitchen stores to department stores. Everywhere you look, it’s beginning to look a lot like Halloween.

One company that caught my eye with its Halloween offering this year is Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft stores. This year their “Maker’s Halloween” line offers craft supplies, kits and even costume pieces to Halloween lovers of all ages. I was struck by how large the offering is during a recent trip to the store to see what was new.

Joann’s offering reflects some of the Halloween trends this year – LOTS of glittery pumpkins, decoupage and plays on traditional Halloween colors.

Think the holiday is all about black and orange? Think again! Try adding in some purple, metallic black and green. Need a Styrofoam Frankenstein head? Don’t worry, there are several to choose from.

Fab Lab is part of the company’s Halloween line. These ready-to-decorate papier-mache accessories range from being totally Halloween specific to slightly more autumn themed. You can paint them, decoupage them … whatever feels right to you.

While many of the Maker’s Halloween offerings are perfect for kids to use for Halloween crafting, there’s a line that’s just for the kiddos. Little Makers offers simple kits and easy projects for children to enjoy as part of an easy-to-coordinate Halloween project.

You can make banners, Halloween tree ornaments – or just decorate a pumpkin for fun. And if you’re looking for some Halloween craft basics to add to your child’s crafting stash, the Little Makers line has that covered, too.

In our next Crafts for Kids post we’ll offer up a few Halloween project ideas sourced from the supplies found at Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft. In the meantime take a look at Joann’s blog and Halloween landing page for some Halloween inspiration to hold you and your children over.
