Are you looking to challenge yourself or your kids this summer? Then why not take to the trees in Grand Rapids? TreeRunner Grand Rapids Adventure Park offers zip lining and ropes courses that provide just the right amount of daring – and beats the pants off of the local playground.

This Grand Rapids treetop adventure park, which made our list of top places to go zip lining in Michigan, is nestled in a forest right outside of Celebration! Cinema, but you’d never know you’re that close to the hustle and bustle of the city, says Amanda McClellan, the park’s business manager.

“Celebrations! is a very busy complex,” she explains. “But you go back into the valley and we’re tucked in a really quiet forest (that) you can go into and escape.”

And you might appreciate that peaceful setting as you’re gearing up to take on some of the 60-plus challenging obstacles, rope bridges, swings and zip lines – including the 365-foot Mega Zip Line – offered across the seven different courses in the park.

“It’s a great experience for all fitness and comfort levels,” McClellan says. “(But) our difficult courses can really take some upper body and core strength.”

Of course, the park isn’t just for skilled climbers. Beginners can take on the pink, yellow and green beginner routes to test themselves and then move up to the intermediate blue and purple routes before taking on the black and red expert courses.

And for pint-sized guests, be sure to stop by the Junior Park.

“The Junior Park courses are mini versions of our park,” McClellan explains. “It’s made for kids ages 3-7 and is about four feet off the ground.”

Plus, this zip line spot hosts glow nights every Thursday-Saturday in the summer and Friday-Saturday in the fall. Scale the trees, which are LED-lit, in glow attire – and to music.

The Grand Rapids treetop adventure park is located at 2121 Celebration Drive NE in Grand Rapids. Tickets are $39/ages 14-plus, $35/13 and under, $30/night tickets and $20/Junior Park. Hours for 2018 are as follows:

  • 3-10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4- Nov. 20.

Tickets are sold up until two hours before park closing, reservations are recommended and you should allow your family approximately three hours to tackle most or all of the courses.

“(The park) is a great way to get outside, and there’s definitely something for everyone to do, regardless of how old the kids are or if the parents want to participate,” McClellan says. “This is really an experience that a family can work through that will provide lasting memories.”
