Kid Perks at Barnes & Noble in Rochester Hills

The Barnes & Noble in Rochester Hills has more than just books. Here's a sampling of the store's family offerings.

Shopping for media and gifts with your kids just got a bit more fun. At the new Barnes & Noble that opened in March at the Village of Rochester Hills, families get to experience the retailer’s new store prototype – Michigan’s first – with clean, contemporary designs and plenty of family-focused features.

Store manager Lisa Kargol says the space is dedicated to serving local children and families with cool attractions like a Lego activity table and story time area.

“The store also features a variety of different seating options, from community seating around a table to outdoor patio seating and more, so families can gather together and spend time reading (and) relaxing,” she says.

Here’s what you’ll find if you visit the 14,000-square-foot bookstore.

Book ‘theaters’

The whole store is set up with lower-profile shelves to provide a more open and airy feel, and two book “theaters” offer a 360-degree shopping experience.

Self-serve kiosks and staff with tablets make it easier to find what you need, too.

Kids’ section

In addition to a Lego table and story time space, the children’s space here has a jungle gym display featuring popular toys and children’s characters.

Café

Families can take a break at The Café, which serves Starbucks beverages plus baked goods, sandwiches, quiches, soup and grab-and-go snacks.

Outdoor space

If you’d like to settle in with a book and enjoy the fresh air, this is the spot.

Community workspace. For the parent who needs a quiet space to work, head to the store’s community workspace.

The Barnes & Noble in Rochester Hills is located at 200 N. Adams Road. Regular hours are 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday. For more information call 248-841-2751 or visit them online.
