Meet Naja, Metro Parent October 2013 CoverKid – VIDEO

I‘ll get you my pretty – and your little cat, too! Luckily for us, though, Naja, 7, of Detroit is the very good kind of little witch. She dolled up in a purple-and-black Halloween costume, complete with star-speckled pointy black hat and quintessential broomstick, for the October 2013 cover of Metro Parent magazine.

And, as we learned behind the scenes, the cat definitely doesn’t have this young gal’s tongue! Naja wowed us with her effortless dance ability (she’s been at it since age 4) and eloquent insights, whether on her favorite art form (“Dancing is all about poetry,” she muses), Jamaican roots (it’s the “only place you’ll wish to live in”) – or the cute, wriggly kitty she met from Tigerlily Cat Rescue in Sterling Heights (who unfortunately squirmed right out of the final shoot!). See for yourself:

Be sure to meet all of our CoverKids winners for 2013, including the readers who were announced in September 2013 and will be appearing on our magazine covers into early 2014.

Interested in your kid being on the cover of Metro Parent magazine? Check out the Metro Parent CoverKids page. As information about our 2014 event emerges (for contenders for our 2014-15 covers), this is where you’ll find it (give us a few months; it’s in the works!). Natural self-confidence, poise and personality are what it takes – as you can see with Naja. We hope you’ll get your kids involved with the next CoverKids. You never know: They might wind up in the spotlight, too.
