If April showers bring May flowers, it’s time to get those junior green thumbs ready for gardening! Petals are blooming this month, from Mother’s Day bouquets to flower sales galore. To get your kids thinking spring, try transforming a plain pot into a polka-dot home fit for the finest of DIY flowers – the washi tape variety.
Materials
- Small flowerpot
- Pompoms
- Clothespins
- Craft paint
- Floral foam square
- Serrated knife
- Wooden craft sticks
- White cardstock
- Washi tape in various colors
- Circle paper punches in various sizes
- Double-sided tape
- Faux grass covering
Directions
Pot: Clip a pompom with a clothespin to make a paintbrush perfect for small hands. Lightly dab the pom in paint and stamp dots on the pot. Alternate colors with a clean pompom – or try using cotton balls. Let the pot dry completely.
Flowers: Rip long strips of tape from the roll and adhere to cardstock. Overlap tape as you see fit. Once you’ve built up a few rows, punch out circles of different sizes. Put a small piece of double-sided tape on the end of a craft stick. Press the flower circle on top. To create petals, wrap a piece of green-themed washi tape around the center of the stick.
Assembly: Cut a piece of floral foam to the size of the center of your pot. Insert it into the pot, followed by the craft sticks. Once all flowers are added, cover the foam with a layer of faux grass.
