Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy
Pontiac, MI, 48340, US
Offering a rich Catholic education and rigorous academic curriculum, Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy, located in Pontiac, features a prestigious and innovative faith-based academic program and extracurricular activities that shape students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
"Notre Dame is an International Baccalaureate (IB) school. We teach children to become critical thinkers and problem-solvers," says Andrew Guest, head of school at NDPMA.
It is the first Catholic school in the United States and the only Catholic school in Michigan to offer the International Baccalaureate Programme to students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
According to the International Baccalaureate organization, an IB education cultivates inquiring, knowledgeable and caring students and encourages them to create a better future and world.
The Notre Dame IB Programme includes an innovative curriculum in the Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme and the Diploma Programme.
"Parents of children, especially those with very young children, should know that because of the breadth of programming from pre-kindergarten through high school, their children will benefit from a continuum of a faith-based educational program for students ages 3 to graduation," says Mike Kelly, the director of marketing for Notre Dame.
Kelly also notes that in an effort to further enhance the educational experience for all students, Notre Dame opened a 26,000-square-foot science, arts and technology wing in August 2018. The new addition has eight classrooms, three science labs, two art studios and a greenhouse, which allows the school to offer new and unique courses like botany to the students.
"We believe that this investment into the academic experience for our students will further cement Notre Dame as a leader among private, independent Catholic schools, not only in Michigan but in the entire country," Guest adds.
Niche, a national school-ranking organization, said Notre Dame's upper division was the top Catholic high school in the state of Michigan three out of the last four years. Notre Dame (all three divisions) was also ranked as one of the top five private, K-12 schools in the state, according to Niche.
Besides its top-ranked academic programming, the school features a world-ranked robotics teams, an exemplary athletic program and an award-winning performing and visual arts program.
"At Notre Dame, we create well-balanced students (who are) prepared for life," Guest says. "Students benefit from a terrific educational experience within a Catholic/Christian environment."
Notre Dame is committed to preparing students for the next step of life, including college.
"We are a college-preparatory school. That's what we do best," Guest says.
When it comes to college, Kelly says Notre Dame students were accepted to more than 160 colleges and universities in 2018. In addition, 100 percent of the graduating seniors routinely are accepted to four-year colleges and universities. The Class of 2018 earned more than $16 million in merit-based scholarships, which is more than an $84,000 average for each member of the class.
"Notre Dame's overriding goal Ñ from its three-year-old students to its high school seniors Ñ is to create a safe and nurturing learning environment where students can become the best versions of themselves, both academically and spiritually," Guest says.
