Santa’s Arctic Landing at the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation in Dearborn

This special holiday offering, which is part of Holidays in Henry Ford, is available Nov. 24-Dec. 24, 2017.

How many times have your kids asked to visit Santa at the North Pole? What would they think if they found out he flew into metro Detroit to bring the North Pole to them instead?

While getting a visit with Kris Kringle at his home base isn’t quite possible, the Henry Ford has an option that might feel just as magical. Starting Nov. 24, the historical spot will offer Santa’s Arctic Landing – a Santa meet-and-greet that is part of the museum’s Holidays in Henry Ford event.

Santa’s Arctic Landing is offered Nov. 24 through Dec. 24 at the following times:

  • 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday
  • 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

Parents are encouraged to bring their own camera to capture their children’s moments with Saint Nick.

Wondering the best time to visit to avoid the crowds? The museum suggests weekday afternoons, when the big guy typically has more time to spend with each child. Weekends are busy, they say, and the line often closes by 3 p.m. to accommodate everyone already waiting.

Keep in mind that Santa takes a break to feed his reindeer each afternoon so the line will occasionally close temporarily. Santa’s greeter can tell you his return time if he’s not there when you arrive.

This southeast Michigan Santa event is free with museum admission. Museum tickets are free for members; for non-members, it’s $20 for seniors (62-plus), $22 for adults (12-61), $16.40 for youth (3-11) and free for children 2 and younger. Parking costs $6 per vehicle for non-members and is free for members.

The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation is located at 20900 Oakwood Blvd. in Dearborn.
