Blank Slate Creamery Ice Cream Store in Ann Arbor

Ann Arbor is welcoming a new independent ice-cream shop in June 2014. Blank Slate Creamery – named after the idea of "starting fresh" – is set to feature 24 delicious flavors in a cozy setting tailored with children in mind.

Blank Slate Creamery

For owner Janice Sigler, a Dexter mom of three (ages 25, 21 and 18), making her treats in-house is a big deal. Products are homemade using fresh, locally sourced eggs, milk, cream and sugar. There are no artificial preservatives or emulsifiers. Talk about starting fresh, right?

The name carries extra meaning, though, as this is a new career for Sigler. And, in the process, she also gave an old place new life.

That's because Blank Slate is settled in an 1880s-era building that was previously home to everything from a gas station to a health food store. Now, as a fun goody shop, it's set to boast chalkboard surfaces for kids to doodle on – and a viewing area allowing families to watch frozen delights being made.

"Scoopologists" serve up 21 flavors of ice cream. The shop's Facebook page highlights anything from classic choices like chocolate chip to adventurous picks like jasmine with caramelized ginger. Besides that yummy ice cream, you'll also find three sorbet flavors.

Malts, shakes, homemade cream puffs and brownies are slated for Blank Slate, too. And, Sigler adds, she hopes to someday expand the business to offer ice-cream cakes. Party-planning moms and dads, be sure to check back!
