Open for business since June 1, 2012 in downtown Ann Arbor, Rock Paper Scissors is the kind of place in which you're likely to amble. That's because the unique knickknacks that line the shelves of this Main Street shop are sort of stuff that make you stop, tilt your head and move in for a closer look.

"Our unique selection of gifts is made up of things that I've come across throughout the years that have made me smile," says owner Lisa Mattison Roberts. "I hope now, in turn, they'll make others smile when they see them here."

Among those unique offerings are things like birth announcement wall hangings that can be personalized with a block "M" for the baby whose mom and dad met at the University of Michigan or with baseballs for the little guy who's likely to be a future regular at Detroit Tigers games.

Seedling craft kits make for rainy day fun. Kids can make their own super hero costume, friendship bracelet or globe. Other popular items retailing at Rock Paper Scissors include actress Josie Bissett's Boogie Monster Dance Kit and Tickle Monster Laugh Kit and aden + anais swaddlers.

The Ann Arbor location of Rock Paper Scissors makes number two; the original store, which opened in October 2011, is in Tecumseh. Roberts and her mother, Ann Mattison, together run both stores.

Displaying her Mitten pride proudly, Mattison Roberts has dedicated an entire section of the store to Michigan-themed gift items including wall prints and napkins.

"Our tagline is 'celebrate everything.'" Mattison Roberts notes. "Simply put, we offer fun, unique gifts for just about every occasion."
