Lil' Goods Store, Detroit: Baby Diaper Gear, Kids Clothing

Oh, baby! Lil' Goods, a fresh line by Goods Detroit, is a welcome family addition to the Detroit scene. Setting up shop in the Midtown area, this "division" expands the Goods' popular baby and kids' T-shirts and onesies supply – and promises loads of cloth diapering options.

The shop is the brainchild of Detroit mom Karry Brook. It's tucked inside her current Goods Detroit location in the Park Shelton building – a destination known for its "T-shirt bakery," specializing in custom tees with Michigan-centric prints, and a Detroit-flavored gift selection for adults and kids alike.

Lil' Goods

Necessity was definitely the mother of invention for Lil' Goods, says Brook, who has three kids: Jake, 8, Gabe, 5 and Aria, 4 months. She beefed up the store's selection of baby and kids items in early 2014, adding cloth diapers and special items for moms and pregnancy.

"We are the only shop that offers these products for the number of young families moving into the area," explains Brook, who opened Goods three years earlier.

It's a niche she's now filling with loads of tyke-geared wares, like natural baby creams, bibs, rattles, teethers and pint-size tops sporting D graphics – from the Ren Cen-centered skyline to proper Coney dogs to Goods' iconic "Detroit Baby" print. Most clothing is $14-$22, and other product costs vary.

The store boasts a big cloth diapering selection, too. Brook offers oodles of supplies, including cotton wipes, soft liners, changing pads, wet bags, inserts – and button-cute reusable printed options ranging from flat to fitted. This gear ranges about $5 to $42, with diaper sets on the higher end.

Watch for monthly cloth diapering group meetings, too, which offer helpful tips and camaraderie among fellow cloth-opting parents. These are free to attend. Check ahead for the dates and schedule.

Offering a local alternative to online shopping, Lil' Goods also stocks plenty of gifts and "toddler trinkets" that make perfect last-minute presents, whether you're heading to a baby shower or birthday party.
