Who says that a girl needs to wait for her prince charming? Certainly not 4-year-old Madison Jade.
In fact, this spirited tot went viral for explaining exactly why Princess Jasmine should have gone off and traveled the world without Aladdin.
It all started when she and her family went to the movies to see the new live-action remake of the classic Disney flick, Aladdin.
In the movie, Aladdin is a poor boy who finds a magic lamp and wishes to become a prince so that he can win the hand of the spunky, but sheltered, Princess Jasmine.
As a prince, Aladdin takes Jasmine on a magic carpet ride outside of her castle’s walls and shows her a “whole new world.” But Miss Madison wasn’t having any of that.
In a video posted to Instagram, the toddler speaks from her car seat and declares “Jasmine needs to go see the world by herself” because “you don’t need a boy to take you to see the whole world.”
To be fair, Madison’s support for Jasmine’s solo world travels stems from the fact that the carpet is too small for two, but damn am I impressed that this little girl understands that a woman doesn’t need a man to do whatever she wants to do – and that she isn’t afraid to share these thoughts.
As a girl from a small(ish) town, there was a lot of pressure on me to find a suitable man, settle down, get married, have 2.5 kids and let my husband take care of me. But that’s not the life I wanted for myself – not that there’s anything wrong with being married or living that kind of life, if you want it.
With the support of my parents, I rejected these ideas from a young age and went on to college, left my hometown, built myself a nice little life, and yes, met a pretty rad dude – though 10 years later we still have no plans for marriage.
As a young girl though, it was difficult wanting something different for myself that didn’t include marriage and a baby carriage. I got called a lot of names and a lot of the decisions I’ve made are still constantly questioned.
My point is it’s tough to raise a girl who has grit, who understands her worth and knows that she can do whatever she wants. And if Madison’s thoughts on Princess Jasmine are any indication of her future, her mom is doing something right.
