  • Racing Day, scheduled for Jan. 20 and presented by the Detroit Grand Prix, will take place inside Huntington Place. Professional drivers will participate in on-site demonstrations focused on racing techniques and performance driving.
  • Four indoor tracks will offer ride-along experiences for attendees. The 2026 indoor course is expected to include design elements inspired by the Detroit Grand Prix street circuit. Production-vehicle ride-alongs with professional drivers are planned, though driver lineups, ride windows and age requirements have not yet been announced. Check the show’s website for updated age requirements.
  • Auto Show week will also coincide with Ford’s public debut of its upcoming Formula 1 partnership, which was previously announced from Michigan Central Station in Detroit. The initiative marks Ford’s return to Formula 1 racing beginning in 2026 and will be part of programming associated with Auto Show week. The 2026 Detroit Auto Show is chaired by Todd Szott of Szott Ford, part of Southeast Michigan Ford Dealers.
  • For the older kids, Industry Days and workforce-focused programming will take place Jan. 14-15, 2026, alongside the Mobility Global Forum and AutoMobili-D. These experiences focus on workforce development, cultivating student interest in mobility careers, and connecting students with industry leaders and innovators.
  • During the Jan. 14-25 run, a full spectrum of car brands will be showcased, allowing kiddos to get up close and personal with their favorite styles, and parents to shop for their next family vehicle. Major automotive brands will be on display throughout the show floor at Huntington Place, offering hands-on experiences and immersive exhibits.
  • The Gallery is also returning in 2026, displaying a collection of ultra-luxury and exotic cars. The Gallery will kick off Detroit Auto Show programming and feature museum-quality vehicles, exclusive displays, and a philanthropic partnership benefiting Forgotten Harvest. For kids who dream of seeing a Hot Wheels-style car in real life, this area delivers some of the show’s most eye-catching displays.

  • Plan ahead. Check the show’s schedule for special events or activities aimed at kids to ensure you don’t miss out on any highlights. The full schedule and offerings will be released as it gets closer to the event dates.
  • Arrive early. Beat the crowds by arriving early. This gives you and your kids time to explore without feeling rushed.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. With so much to see, you’ll be doing a lot of walking. Make sure everyone in the family wears comfortable shoes for a day of exploration.
  • Stay hydrated. Walking around the expansive venue and experiencing all the exhibits can be tiring. Be sure to keep water on hand to keep everyone refreshed throughout the day.
  • Use noise-canceling headphones. On Racing Day, engine noise can be overwhelming for younger children. Purchase noise-canceling headphones to protect their ears and ease their anxiety.
  • Ford updates to watch. Families interested in Ford-specific announcements and updates leading up to the show can keep an eye on Ford’s official media news site, where new details are expected to be shared as the event approaches.
