Ole! Cinco de Mayo is only a day away. The festival, celebrated every fifth of May, remembers a victorious Mexico during a French invasion in the 1862 Battle of Puebla. To honor the triumph, proud Mexicans everywhere spend the day with music, festive dancing, family and, of course, food!
To bring a bit of this celebration to your home, we’ve put together a list of five fabulous and easy-to-make recipes to help get the party started. So gather all your senores y senoritas around the kitchen table for a Cinco de Mayo food fiesta!
Tortilla Roll-Ups
These delicious pinwheels from All Recipes give the classic cheese sandwich a festive kick. With only five ingredients, they make for great pre-party appetizers served with a side of salsa or serve as easy snacks! Plus, they’re simple enough for kids to make – and yummy enough for them to want to roll them up again and again.
Mango Guacamole
Sweet, refreshing and filled with vitamin E – what more could you want in a dip? Martha Stewart mixes up the usual guacamole with the fruity tang of fresh mangoes. Take out the seeds and ribs of the chili for a mellower, kid-friendly version or – if you’re daring – leave them in for that punch of extra heat.
Churros with Chocolate Sauce
For a sweet treat, try this famous Mexican dessert that Taste has made even sweeter. Churros, traditionally rolled in sugar and cinnamon, are not only fun to make but, more importantly, fun to eat! Plus, dipped in chocolate (and who doesn’t love that?), they make for the perfect ending to any meal.
Horchata (Mexican Rice Drink)
Finish off the festivities with this cooling and traditional rice drink. The added honey and lime that Weelicious stirs in gives the drink its taste of summer. Kick back with a glass of this easy-to-make Mexican classic and you’ll be counting down the days until the next Cinco de Mayo!
