Savory Waffle Recipe Ideas for Dinner

Looking for something different for dinner? Switch things up by having breakfast for dinner with one of these savory waffles. Waffles welcome mixins’ like shredded cheese and spices that can give them a whole different flavor. And since kids already love waffles, they’re more likely to try them when they’re whipped up in a new way. For starters, try bacon and blue cheese waffles topped with honey butter. For something more adventurous, make either spicy chicken and cheddar waffle sandwiches, falafel waffles or waffled margherita pizza. Waffles are also a great way to use up leftovers – for example, crisp pork to use in pulled pork cornbread waffles. Or make it a Mexican fiesta by putting together tostada waffles.

Bacon and Blue Cheese Waffles

Start this recipe for bacon and blue cheese waffles from Reynolds Kitchens with the standard ingredients like flour, baking powder, sugar, eggs, milk and melted butter. And for the good part? Stir crumbled blue cheese and bacon into the batter. After making each of the waffles, serve with honey butter.

Spicy Chicken and Cheddar Waffle Sandwiches

There’s no need for a bun with this spicy chicken and cheddar waffle sandwich recipe from Rachael Ray. The waffle batter includes shredded white cheddar, diced green chiles and chopped pecans. Bread and fry the chicken breasts. Top each piece of chicken with slices of tomato, lettuce, smoky bacon and a smear of maple mustard.

Falafel Waffles

Break out the chickpeas to make this falafel waffle recipe from the Simple Vegan Blog. Blend together chickpeas, garlic, red onion, cilantro, spinach, cumin powder and salt. Add the batter to the waffle iron and bake until crisp. Top with a minty yogurt sauce.

Waffled Margherita Pizza

Roll out pizza dough into small, thin rounds. Place the dough into a waffle iron and cook until golden. Microwave pasta sauce until hot. Spoon the sauce onto each waffle and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese and torn, fresh basil. You can top these waffled margherita pizzas from the Food Network with other pizza ingredients, too.

Pulled Pork Cornbread Waffles

Here’s a great way to use leftover pork. Stir milk, eggs, melted butter and shredded cheddar cheese into a box of Jiffy cornbread mix. Put the batter in spoonfuls into the waffle iron and cook. Top waffle sections with pull pork and drizzle with barbecue sauce. Serve these pulled pork cornbread waffles from Pass the Sushi to smiles all around.

Tostada Waffles

Making these tostada waffles from Betty Crocker is easy when you start by using Bisquick mix. Whisk green chiles and chili powder into the batter. Bake until crisped. Meanwhile, brown ground beef and flavor with taco seasoning. Scoop the meat mixture on top of the crisped waffles. Add finely diced lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped tomatoes and a dollop of sour cream.
