Explore Santa’s Village at 1001 Winter Wonders

Downtown Detroit’s whimsical Santaland is taking photos with Santa to the next level.

Santa Claus has arrived in downtown Detroit, and he’s set up shop at 1001 Winter Wonders. Through Dec. 24, kids can visit 1001 Winter Wonders to present their letters to Santa in person. Free photos with the Big Man are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Address: 1001 Woodward Ave., Detroit
  • Regular hours: 4-8 p.m. Thursday-Friday; noon-4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday
  • Holiday and extended hours: 4-8 p.m. Dec. 16, 17, 18, 23; noon-4 p.m. Dec. 24
  • Cost: Free! 

Shining lights, a roaring fireplace and more festive decor adorn Santa’s whimsical workshop. The space is enclosed and wheelchair accessible, but lines to see Santa form outside, so be sure to bundle up. After you’ve visited Santa and snapped some family photos, bundle up and explore all the holiday fun that downtown Detroit offers families.

A visit with Santa is just the beginning of your family’s holiday celebrations in downtown Detroit. Once your child has let the Big Man know what they want for Christmas, check out these festivities that are sure to put your family in the holiday spirit. 

  • Hit The Rink at Campus Martius Park. Families can ice skate and enjoy scenic views, themed events, giveaways and more. 
  • Shop the Downtown Detroit Markets. Find unique gifts for everyone on your list while supporting local businesses and artists. 
  • Cozy up in the Cadillac Lodge. This family-friendly space in Cadillac Square is decked out for the holidays. Play board games, warm up next to a fireplace and grab a bite to eat. There is live music and kid-friendly activities on the weekends, too!
  • Visit Chalet 313. New this year, the two-story holiday hangout space overlooks the Christmas tree and all of the festivities at Campus Martius Park. Chalet 313 features warm seating, a full bar offering festive cocktails and dazzling views of the ice rink, Detroit skyline and the Christmas tree.
