Everyone loves a long weekend and a day off from school. Columbus Day and Indigenous People’s Day are celebrated on Monday, Oct. 14, 2024, which means many families will get to spend a little extra time together over the long holiday weekend.

Whether you’re looking to celebrate Indigenous People’s Day with your kids or just want to have some extra fun (and prevent dreaded boredom from setting in), these fun activities and new attractions are a great way to make the long weekend extra special.

Columbus Day Weekend Events for Metro Detroit Families 

DeBuck’s Fall Festival

  • When: Friday, Oct. 11-Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024
  • Where: DeBuck’s Family Farm, Belleville

Use that extra day off school to pick out your family’s Halloween pumpkins! Debuck’s Fall Festival has the perfect pumpkin for every kid plus tons of fall fun. A giant corn box, wagon rides, a corn maze, a trike track and many more farm activities are sure to make for a memorable long weekend.

Zoo Boo at the Detroit Zoo

Perfect for littles and animal lovers, this not-so-scary event includes trick-or-treating stations, Halloween entertainment, face painting, seasonal photo ops and more. Be sure to wear a costume!

Enchanted Glenlore Trails

  • When: Friday, Oct. 11-Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024
  • Where: Glenlore Trails, Commerce Township
  • Cost: $25/ages 12+, $15/ages 4-12, free/3 and under

Mid-October is the perfect time to get little ones into the Halloween spirit. This immersive night walk is spook-free and features fog bubbles, projectors, eerie lighting and more Halloween decor. 

Halloween Stroll at Canterbury Village

  • When: Friday, Oct. 11-Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024
  • Where: Canterbury Village, Lake Orion

Dress up as your favorite character and prepare to be spooked as you stroll through Canterbury Village. Meet creepy and fun characters, explore haunted cemeteries, take family photos in costume and more. 

A2 Artoberfest

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024
  • Where: Downtown Ann Arbor
  • Cost: Free! 

Spend your long weekend enjoying artwork from more than 100 fine artists. There will also be live music and entertainment, food and drinks, vendors and more fun for families. 

Backyard Beer Garden

  • When: Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024
  • Where: Palmer Commons, Chelsea
  • Cost: $5, cash only 

Need a date night? Call the babysitter and head to this fun outdoor beer garden. Sip on craft brews and specialty cocktails, then grab a bite from local food vendors. There will be free games like cornhole, Jenga, flip cup, beer pong and Yahtzee to keep the fun going all night long.
