DIY Glitter Snowflake Pendant Necklace Craft Project

After a mild December, it finally happened the first few days of January – the weather turned cold. Really cold! With the first dustings of snow, attentions are focused on all-things snowy, from making the first snow angels to building rows and rows of snowmen. While we might loathe the sight of snow in the coming weeks, right now it’s still a fun idea. For the snowy, “frozen” lovers in your house, have them make their very own DIY snowflake pendant.

We found these fun wooden snowflake shapes at Paper Source in Birmingham. Look for similar accents to make this necklace. Stickers work, too!

Materials

  • Small snowflake accents
  • Wooden circle shapes, 2 3/8-inches (you can also make the pendant smaller, if you like)
  • Necklace bail
  • Silver craft paint
  • Silver glitter
  • Paint brushes
  • Mod Podge (gloss finish)
  • Thin ribbon or plain silver chain
  • Epoxy (or other strong adhesive)

Instructions

Start out by painting the front of the wooden circle with the silver paint. Let the front side dry and then paint the back. Let the back dry and then paint the side of the circle. Add a second coat of paint, if necessary.

Once the paint is dry on the circle, add a thin layer of Mod Podge to the front.

Next, sprinkle glitter onto the front of the pendant while the Mod Podge is still wet. Let dry and then add another coat of Mod Podge to the front of the circle. Let that dry before adding a coating of Mod Podge to back and sides to make sure the entire pendant is sealed.

Turn the pendant over and attach the bail to the top of the circle with a small amount of epoxy. Let dry.

Apply a very small amount of epoxy to your snowflake shape and attach to the front. Let dry. To finish the necklace, cut a long length of ribbon that’s easy enough for your child to fit over the head. Slide the ribbon through the bail and tie with a tight knot.
