LEGO Architecture: Towering Ambition Exhibit at Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation in Dearborn

The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation in Dearborn will be showcasing some remarkable small-scale buildings in the LEGO Architecture: Towering Ambition exhibit, visiting this family destination Nov. 3, 2012-Feb. 24, 2013.

Creations from professional LEGO builder Adam Reed Tucker will be on display. Marvel at 13 of his incredible models, including famous landmarks like the Empire State Building, Burj Khalifa of Dubai, St. Louis Arch and a remarkable recreation of the Chicago Spire – all made from those small, plastic bricks.

Opening weekend activities – that’s Nov. 3-4, 2012 – will include a live demonstration by Tucker as he builds a LEGO model of Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions.

After kids have been inspired by Tucker’s work, they can then whip up their own building in the LEGO play pit and place it on the large-scale LEGO city map with other builders’ designs.

Using principles of urban design, builders are encouraged to create buildings to make a realistic LEGO community, choosing from four categories: residential, commercial, institutional and industrial.

Tweens will want to swing by for Learn-to-Build Saturdays, happening Dec. 1-30. Kids ages 10 and up can learn to build a model of the museum’s clock tower!

For younger kids, a Duplo and soft LEGO play area will be at the exhibit daily through Feb. 24. There won’t be any smaller LEGO pieces, so it’s perfect for kids ages 1-5. Find it daily by the Allegheny Locomotive.

Also, be sure to catch cool events like the LEGO train (during regular hours, Nov. 20-Jan. 6) and a Double Dare-style brick challenge (11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturdays, Jan. 5-26).

The exhibit runs 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. every day – with the except of Thursday, Nov. 22 (Thanksgiving) and Tuesday, Dec. 25 (Christmas Day). It’s free with museum admission, which is $17/adults ages 13-61, $12.50/kids ages 5-12, $15/seniors and free/ages 4 under.
