Michigan State Fair at Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi

The annual Michigan State Fair returns to the Suburban Collection Showplace with family rides and games, livestock displays and grandstand shows, Aug. 29-Sept. 2, 2019.

The annual Michigan State Fair, happening this Labor Day weekend, is a celebration full of animals, performances and food.

Go shopping, hop on rides, watch the pigs’ race and meet the butter cows all weekend long, Aug. 29-Sept. 2, 2019.

Start off at the Equestrian Pavilion for the horse showcase. The competitions will include barrel racing, reining and expanded pulling events.

Check out the other competitions happening over the weekend, when folks bake their own pies and make outfits out of wool. You can also watch the pie-, corn- and hotdog-eating contests, or register your kids in the Diaper Derby or seed spitting competitions.

Animals raid the fair, too. Check out the Beginning of Life animal exhibits where kids can watch live births and hear how and why animals act the way they do after birth.

Also, the Fifth Third livestock competition continues. Visit all the animals and watch as they do their tricks for the judges.

After, watch the pigs race head-to-head or go watch Tom Paul Fitzgerald as he transforms pounds of butter into life-sized cow art. And of course, don’t forget to check out the Shrine Circus and the fun at Tiny Totville, featuring circus acts, games, rides and funhouses for the kids.

Plus, art, live music, a massive midway full of rides and shopping.

Costs are as follows:

  • Fair only: $8/adults, $6/kids
  • Rides: $1.25/ticket, $20/unlimited ride wristbands (plus general fair admission)
  • Circus: $17/person (plus general fair admission)
  • Rides, fair and circus: $30/person

Hours are 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Thursday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday.
