Mother’s Day Events in Metro Detroit and Ann Arbor

Make mom feel special this Mother's Day at these local happenings.

As families are working harder to enjoy more in-person events, make Mom feel special in 2021 with a party to celebrate her style.

Macomb, Oakland, Wayne and Washtenaw counties are full of Mother’s Day events that are sure to fit any mom’s taste.

Some of the events fall on Mother’s Day, which is May 8, 2021, others happen before the big day, and some require registration, so be sure to check in advance.

Mother’s Day Wildflower Walk and Brunch at Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter

May 8, 2021

Celebrate Mom with a Hudson Mills Metropark tradition. Enjoy a half-mile guided hike along the nature trails in search of spring flowers. Add a Brunch Box of food to enjoy brunch at the park. Brunch Boxes are available for pick-up between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Social distancing and face coverings are required.

Mother’s Day Make & Take Workshop at Vintage House

Tweens, teens and their moms can enjoy a bouquet make-and-take workshop. Each participant will receive one designer bouquet and building lesson plus two handmade cards. Masks are required, as is social distancing between groups.

Mother’s Day Walk at Kensington Metropark in Milford

May 9, 2021

Join trail guides at the Kensington Metropark Nature Center for an hour-long guided walk to see what resident animals and plants are up to in the spring. Wildflowers and birds will be in their spring glory. Look for bird’s nests in the trees and on the ground, and identify birds that are singing and calling to one another. This program is entirely outdoors. Social distancing and face coverings are required.

Women Walking Woodward for Peace at Grand Circus Park in Detroit: A Vigil

Mothers, sisters, daughters and aunts demonstrate annually to declare and affirm that women will not support raising children to kill other mothers’ children. This pro-peace vigil celebrates activism, justice seeking and woman-centered visioning. Signs and banners will be provided, but groups are welcome to also bring their own. 

Mother’s Day Wildflower Walk at Oakwoods Metropark in New Boston

Treat Mom to a relaxing hike through the woods to discover some of the beautiful spring wildflowers that can be found along the nature trails. Learn some fun facts about these unique treasures and hear some of the myths and legends surrounding a few of these plants, that color the woods in spring. This program is entirely outdoors. Social distancing and face coverings are required.

Walk-A-Mom at Stony Creek Metropark Nature Center in Shelby Township

Families can enjoy a spring hike on the trails with mom and grandmother and take time with the wildflowers that are starting to bloom. Choose the nature trail of your choice to enjoy and be sure to stop by the nature center to get a certificate, and all moms and grandmother receive a flower to plant a home. Social distancing and face coverings are required.

Mother’s Day Picnic – A Beyond the Seed Event at Wolcott Mill Metropark in Ray

  • Cost: $10 per person plus parking pass or daily parking fee; registration required by May 1

Treat mom to a good old-fashioned picnic by Beyond the Seed 4H. Enjoy a sit-down family picnic equipped with a checkered tablecloth and a picnic basket filled with tasty finger foods, while surrounded by beautiful spring blooms. Enjoy a lovely garden setting while mom chooses a plant to take home. Masks are required and social distancing will be observed.

Mother’s Day Embroidery at Indian Springs Metropark in White Lake

Kids ages 8 and older can make a keepsake for mom that she is sure to be impressed by. Spend time in the native plant garden for inspiration and learn a few basic stitches. Embroidery hoop, threads, and a plain bandana will be included (guests should also feel free to bring other items if there is something specific to be used; keep in mind thicker fabrics are harder to work with). Expect to walk quarter-mile on gravel trails. Social distancing and face coverings are required.

Mother’s Day Matinee with Emagine Theaters

Moms and kids can enjoy a movie matinee with The Ultimate Ladies Night. Tickets include private screening, popcorn, soda, raffle ticket and a special gift from the host. Movies will be announced later; masks are required to enter.

Mother’s Day Painting Rainbow Magic Unicorns at Painting With A Twist in Roseville

May 9, 2021

Kids ages 7 and older with moms are invited to paint a unicorn masterpiece together. All participants will also receive an individual wrapped Sweet Cupcake Treat. Face masks and temperature checks will be required and disposable aprons are provided.

Royal Oak in Bloom on Main Street

May 9, 2021

This annual flower and garden sale offers flowers, plants and landscaping items. Nearly 70 vendors attend, selling everything from perennials to copper sprinklers, annuals to trees, tomato plants to wind chimes, porch swings to etched stones.
