Mud Day at Hines Park in Westland

Come out and celebrate the one day a year where parents actually want their kids to play in the mud with Mud Day in Westland, happening July 10, 2012 in the Nankin Mills area of Hines Park, located on Hines Drive east of Ann Arbor Tail in Westland.

The 25th anniversary of this family-fun event kicks off at 10:30 a.m. with a live show from the Radio Disney AM 910 Road Crew until 11:30 a.m.

Kids blast into the mud at 11:45 a.m. on the dot, and the Westland Fire Department is on hand to hose off the muddy tykes afterward. There will also be organized games in the mud like relays, wheelbarrow races and limbo. Be sure not to miss the crowning of the muddiest kids as King and Queen Mud. Activities take place near the volleyball courts, across from the Nankin Mills Interpretive Center.

To celebrate this popular event’s quarter-century anniversary, the mud pit has been expanded to 75 feet wide and 150 feet long. In addition, there are plenty of giveaways.

Kids should wear old clothing or a bathing suit that they (and their parents!) don’t mind getting dirty, as well as bring a towel to dry off with afterward. There is a designated changing area available on-site, along with plastic bags for muddy clothing items.

Parking is limited, so families are encouraged to car pool. This free event is for children 12 and under and is sponsored by Fox 2 News, Parkside Credit Union, ITC Holdings and Community Alliance Credit Union.
