Sheep & Wool Festival at Mount Bruce Station in Romeo

Head on up to northern Macomb County for a fest that's filled with farm and country skills, good eats and woolly crafts. The Sheep & Wool Festival returns to Mount Bruce Station in Romeo Sept. 28-29, 2013!

This year's highlights include a mass sheep shearing – a once-a-year harvest of wool. Watch as clippers buzz and the fluffy stuff goes flying, all part of giving these animals their annual haircut (and providing material for many of the handmade items you'll find at the Farm Wool Shop, from crew-neck sweaters to mittens, socks, pillows and slippers – the list goes on).

Festivalgoers also will be able to visit "fiber animals" such as llamas, angora rabbits and alpacas. Kids will love petting these furry friends and soaking up a simpler way of life. Just for them, there's also some face painting, along with painted pumpkins in time for the harvest season.

Discover other farm skills, too, through demonstrations of beekeeping, broom making and wool crafts for the kids and adults. Dyeing and knitting demos happen both days of the festival.

Food from the Farm Grill Lamb Menu is available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. And keep an ear out for blue grass tunes Saturday (that's noon to 3 p.m.).

General festival hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. all weekend. Admission is $8, and children under 5 get in free.
