Two years ago, when David Holdridge was just 7, he had an idea – one that inspired his entire family. It was then that the Happy Blankie was born.
It’s an adorable combination of a stuffed animal and a blanket – two things every child loves and wants to have. A stuffed animal is, for some, a first best friend; a blanket, the epitome of comfort and security for kids.
But let’s face it: Not every child is fortunate enough to acquire these two items. So David’s mother, Emily, masterminded the second component to the blankets – the "One to Love, One to Give" philosophy. Each time a Happy Blankie is purchased, an identical blanket is given to a child in a hospital, orphanage or distressed situation.
We’d say that’s pretty amazing.
The blankets are available in styles like Chase the Happy Dog, Giggle the Happy Pig,
Stomp the Happy Frog and Tumble the Happy Bear. Both the dog and pig are currently on backorder, according to the site.
Each comes in three sizes: small, which is 18 inches by 18 inches; medium, which is 36 inches by 36 inches; and large – 48 inches by 56 inches. They are prices $29, $59 and $99 accordingly. They can even be monogrammed.
The blankets can be purchased locally at Peek-A-Bootique in West Bloomfield.
From Ohio to Africa, China to New York, the blanket has reached children from all over the globe. Not only will you put a smile on your child’s face, you’ll make a less-fortunate child happy, too.
